H ?

h Mary’s primordial cell has the genotype Hh Intermediate mitotic stage results in two

copies of each chromosome The 4 resulting gametes could have these genotypes, but only one will

survive To predict what the possible outcomes might be for John and Mary’s baby, Junior, we can use a special type of chart known as the Punnet square, named for the geneticist Reginald C. Punnet. Across the top of the Punnet square we will list the possible genotypes for John’s sperm cells. Down the left side of the chart, we will list the possible genotypes for Mary’s egg cells. Then, by combining these possibilities, we can make predictions as to what hair color Junior might have!

First, let’s insert the possible genotypes for John’s gametes across the top. Recall from above that we said his sperm cells could possibly be H and h. Now, list the possible genotypes for Mary’s gametes down the left side. Again, like John, she could produce ova with H and h genotype. Now, let’s do some combining of these gametes to see the potential outcomes.
